ロサンゼルスFCは28日、元メキシコ代表FWカルロス・ベラ(33)との契約延長を発表した。

アーセナルやレアル・ソシエダなどでプレーしたベラは、2018年1月にロサンゼルスFCへと完全移籍。これまで公式戦117試合に出場し73ゴール34アシストを記録している。

2年目のシーズンとなった2019シーズンには、メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)で32ゴールを記録し、リーグのMVPを獲得するなどチームの中心選手として活躍。2018シーズン、2019シーズンとベストイレブンにも選ばれていた。

今シーズンもここまでMLSで15試合に出場し6ゴール3アシストを記録していた。

クラブによれば、ベラは2023シーズンも特別指定選手として契約したとのこと。この特別指定選手は、MLSで定められたサラリーキャップ(年俸の上限)の範囲外として契約できる選手のことを指す。

ロサンゼルスFCは、ユベントスを退団した元イタリア代表DFジョルジョ・キエッリーニ、レアル・マドリーを退団したウェールズ代表FWガレス・ベイルの獲得を発表している。
