かつてはメジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のドラフト1位でトロントFCへと入団したMF遠藤翼(30)が白血病の再発を報告した。
JFAアカデミー福島出身の遠藤。メリーランド大学へと進学すると、2016年のMLSスーパードラフトでトロントFCから1巡目で指名を受けて加入した。
日本人史上初となるドラフト1位指名となった遠藤。MLSデビューを果たしたが、2017年はリザーブチームでプレー。その後契約が終了して無所属となったが、再びトロントFCのセカンドチームと契約した。
2019年にはファーストチームと再契約。2022年からAリーグのメルボルン・シティへと完全移籍すると、シーズン途中にロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーのセカンドチームへと完全移籍していた。
しかし、2022年9月下旬に帰国。同年12月に急性白血病であることを報告。治療に専念していた。
その遠藤は、1日にX(旧ツイッター)を更新。白血病の再発を報告し、諦めないことを伝えた。

急性未分化白血病が再発してしまいました。
正直ドクターから伝えられた時は、かなり悔しかったです。ここまでトレーナーと、この6カ月間一生懸命トレーニングしてきました。
元以上の体にするために。
でもまた抗がん剤で、身体が壊れてしまいます。
また新たな後退。
でも絶対に諦めないし、またここから。
Fuck leukemia(白血病).Fuck cancer(癌).

再び白血病に立ち向かっていくことを宣言した遠藤。またピッチでその姿を見せてくれることを願うばかりだ。
遠藤はMLSで63試合7ゴール、USLチャンピオンシップ(アメリカ2部)で31試合13ゴール3アシストを記録。メルボルン時代にはAFCチャンピオンズリーグ(ACL)でもプレーし、4試合で1アシストを記録していた。

メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーⅡに所属するFW遠藤翼(29)が、急性白血病を患ったことを報告した。
JFAアカデミー福島U-18出身の遠藤は、2012年にアメリカのメリーランド大学に留学。2016年1月にMLSのドラフトで日本人として初となる1巡目指名を受け、トロントFCに入団した。
MLSでプレーした遠藤だったが、2017年3月にリザーブチームである3部相当のトロントFC IIに降格。その後、トロントFCと契約満了となったが、2018年8月にトロントFC IIに再加入を果たすと、14試合8得点をマーク。2019年1月からはファーストチームに昇格した。
MLSで通算63試合で7ゴール5アシストを記録すると、2022年2月にオーストラリアのメルボルン・シティに完全移籍。Aリーグで5試合に出場、AFCチャンピオンズリーグ(ACL)にも4試合に出場し1アシストを記録。今年8月にアメリカへ戻り、ロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーⅡに加入していた。
遠藤は自身のSNSを更新。今年は体調が優れず日本へ帰国していたことを明かした中、急性白血病であると診断されたと報告した。

「今年9月下旬LAでプレーしている中、少しの間体調を崩し、緊急帰国をしましたが、実は何回か体調も良くなったりと波があり、この2ヶ月間診断がつきませんでした」
「しかし先日12月2日に、【急性白血病】と診断されました。正直、まさか自分が白血病になるとは思いもよりませんでした」
「今後は、日本で治療に専念して1日でも早くピッチの上に復帰できるように闘っていきます。長い闘いになると思いますが、暖かく見守って下さると嬉しい限りです」

メルボルン・シティは1日、トロントFCからMF遠藤翼(28)をフリートランスファーで獲得したことを発表した。契約期間は半年間となる。
Aリーグの王者への加入が決定した遠藤は、クラブ公式サイトを通じて意気込みを語っている。
「オーストラリアにはずっと来たかったですし、メルボルンのいいところも聞いていたので、Aリーグの現チャンピオンの一員になることにとても興奮しています」
「メルボルン・シティの攻撃的なプレースタイルが楽しみですし、ファンの皆さんにお会いできるのも楽しみです」
