リーガ・パナメーニャ(LPF)は4日、パナマ代表DFヒルベルト・エルナンデスが銃撃され死亡したことを発表した。26歳だった。
LPFによれば、エルナンデスはコロン市で発生した暴力行為で銃撃されたとのことだ。
パナマサッカー連盟(FEPAFUT)も声明を発表。「パナマサッカー連盟はヒルベルト・エルナンデスの悲しい逝去を遺憾に思う」と投稿し、「我々は彼の家族と愛する人たち、そしてCAIとパナマのサッカーファミリー全員に哀悼の意を表します」とした。
イギリス『ガーディアン』は警察の情報を伝えており、タクシーに乗った襲撃者が発砲した時、エルナデスは路上に友人といたとのこと。他にも7人が負傷しており、犯人は逮捕されたという。
エルナンデスは、クラブ・アトレティコ・インデペンディエンテで2022年7月からプレー。LPFではプレーオフを含めて17試合に出場し3ゴールを記録していた。
パナマ代表としても2試合に出場しており、今年3月にデビュー。グアテマラ代表戦、アルゼンチン代表戦でプレーしていた。
パナマ政府のデータによれば、コロン市は人口約30万人。2022年には殺人事件が102件発生していた。そのほとんどが、麻薬組織によるものだとされている。
また、2017年には同じコロン市でパナマ代表MFアミルカル・エンリケスが銃殺。2018年のロシア・ワールドカップ予選で出場権を獲得したメンバーの1人だった。
