スペイン代表は27日の国際親善試合でアルゼンチン代表と対戦した。MFイスコのハットトリックに、チアゴ・アルカンタラ、FWジエゴ・コスタ、イアゴ・アスパスの得点で6-1と大勝している。スペインが、かつての強さを取り戻しつつある。

アルゼンチンが1-6という大敗を喫したのは、史上3度目だ。1958年のチェコスロバキア戦、2009年のボリビア戦に続き、ホルヘ・サンパオリ監督は屈辱的な敗戦を経験することとなった。

2010年の南アフリカ・ワールドカップ(W杯)で優勝を飾ったスペインだが、そこから世代交代に苦しみ、2014年ブラジルW杯ではまさかのグループステージ敗退に終わった。その後ユーロ2016ではイタリアに敗れベスト16で散った。

しかしながら2016年夏にフレン・ロペテギ監督が就任すると、状況が一変する。スペインはロペテギ政権で18試合無敗を維持しており、これは故ルイス・アラゴネス氏が記録した26試合無敗に続き、スペイン代表監督として史上2番目の記録となっている。

なお、ロペテギ監督はアルゼンチンに大勝したあと、「歴史のある偉大なチームに勝てたことは誇るべきだが、これは親善試合であってワールドカップではない。我々はまだ本大会では1ポイントも獲得していないのだから、今回の勝利で浮かれたりはしない」と気を引き締めている。

「脅迫も受けた」キスの被害者であるエルモソが告白、苦しい被害者の心境「自分が引き起こしたわけではないのに…」
