▽2連勝中のスペインと、1勝1分けのクロアチアが激突した一戦は、7分にモラタのゴールでスペインが先行する。しかし前半終了間際に同点とされると、87分には勝ち越しを許して試合は終了。この結果、勝利したクロアチアが1位通過を決め、スペインは2位での決勝トーナメント進出となり、決勝トーナメント1回戦ではイタリア代表と対戦する。
