ユベントスのポーランド代表GKヴォイチェフ・シュチェスニー(33)がユーロ出場を逃していたら代表を引退していたと明かした。カタール『beIN Sports』のインタビューで答えた。

26日に行われたウェールズ代表とのユーロ2024本大会出場を懸けたプレーオフでPK戦の末に勝ち抜けを決めたポーランド。シュチェスニーはそのPK戦で相手の5番手キッカーを務めたFWダニエル・ジェームズのシュートを止めてヒーローになっていた。

晴れて4大会連続のユーロ出場を決めたシュチェスニーは敗退していたら代表を引退していたのかと問われ、｢そうなっていただろう｣と進退を懸けた一戦だったと認めた。

また、PK戦への準備について問われると｢プレッシャーがかかるのはGKよりもキッカー。ジェームズには同情するけど、止める自信があった。外したくないから彼は最も簡単な選択肢(ゴール左へのシュート)を選んだ。僕の読みは正しかったね｣と心理戦を振り返った。

2022年プスカシュ賞は衝撃バイシクル弾!アンプティサッカー界から史上初受賞
