▽194cmの長身でアフロヘアーが特徴的な、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのベルギー代表MFマルアン・フェライニが“アフロ”を卒業した。
▽ロシア・ワールドカップではラウンド16で対戦した日本代表戦で途中出場すると、その高さで日本を苦しめ、逆転勝利を呼びこむ活躍。先日のチャンピオンズリーグ第4節のユベントス戦でも、投入後にチームは逆転。“戦術フェライニ”とも言われ、見た目だけでなくピッチ上でも目立つ存在だ。
▽そんなフェライニは14日、自身のツイッター(@Fellaini)を更新。「New year, new look」というメッセージとともに3枚の写真を投稿。その写真に写るフェライニは、特徴的なアフロヘアーをバッサリ切り落とし、スッキリした見た目となっていた。
▽なお、フェライニは22日に31歳の誕生日を控えており、新たな年、また2019年に向けたヘアスタイルと予想される。ちなみに、若かりし頃のフェライニはアフロではなく、当時を豊富とさせる髪型となった。

この時期になると毎年登場するアグリー・クリスマス・セーター。プレゼントやツリーの柄を過剰なまでに編み込んだ悪趣味さを逆に楽しもうとするもので、デザインの“ダサさ”が売りだ。
各クラブもエンブレムなどを施したダサセーターをこぞって販売している中、ベルギー代表も同アイテムを制作。選手たちがモデルとなって着用した。
撮影には、ケビン・デ・ブライネ、アクセル・ヴィツェルのほか、トルガンとエデンのアザール兄弟らも参加。下半身はベルギー代表のショーツにソックスというクールな装いながら、上半身にはこれでもかというほどダサいセーターをまとっている。
さらに、選手たちは2人組でポーズを取っているのだが、もう1人を膝の上に乗せて抱っこしたり、プレゼントを可愛らしく渡したりと面白おかしくポージング。キュート?な写真の数々には、「最高のクリスマスカードだ」、「ルカクがいないぞ」、「とっても可愛い」、「ツッコミどころが多い」、「突き抜けてる(笑)」と多くの反響が集まった。
なお、これらの写真が用いられたクリスマスカードはベルギー代表の公式サイトからダウンロードが可能だ。

ベルギー代表GKティボー・クルトワが、チームの不仲説を否定している。
FIFAランキング2位で優勝候補と目されていたベルギーは、初戦のカナダ戦は勝利したものの、続くモロッコ戦は2失点の完封負けを喫し、残り1試合で3位に位置。勝利必須の最終節の相手は前回大会のファイナリストであるクロアチアという厳しい状況に立たされている。
それに呼応するようにベルギー代表は現在、空中分解寸前と言われている。ベルギー『RTL』によれb、あモロッコ戦の後、ケビン・デ・ブライネとヤン・フェルトンゲン、エデン・アザールが口論となり、ロメル・ルカクが割って入るという事件が勃発。
ただ、そのルカクもミッチー・バチュアイと仲が悪く、デ・ブライネはティボー・クルトワと数年ものあいだ口をきいていない状態。エデン・アザールとレアンドロ・トロサールも互いを避ける関係なのだという。
そんな中、12月1日に控えるクロアチア戦に向けた会見に出席したクルトワが不仲説を否定。チーム内で言い争いがあることは普通のことだと主張し、噂は誰かのでっち上げたことだと断言した。
「言い合いをして、雨降って地固まることもある。協力して問題を解決して行くには、机上で言い合ったり、個人やグループで意見を出し合う事は大切だ。問題は、報道されたことが事実とは限らないということだ」
「誰かがリークした? そんなこと知る必要はない。仮にその犯人がいたとしたら、そいつにとって代表での最後の日になる」
「チームには何の問題もない。外部の者が問題を起こそうとしたに過ぎない。もちろん、敗戦の後で誰もハッピーではないけど、木曜日のピッチでは全てを出し切れなければならないことがわかっているから、より一層、僕らは親密になることができるはずだ」

レアル・マドリーのベルギー代表GKティボー・クルトワと妻でモデルのミシェル・ゲルジグさんが表紙を飾って話題となっている。
マドリー、ベルギー代表の守護神を務めるクルトワ。予てから交際していたイスラエル人モデルのミシェルさんに対して、2022年6月にプロポーズ。見事に成功させていた。
そのクルトワとミシェルさんは、アメリカの雑誌『ヴァニティ・フェア』の表紙を飾ることに。199cmの長身であるクルトワ、そして178cmの長身であるモデルのミシェルさんの2ショットは絵になり、さすがといったところだ。
また、『ヴァニティ・フェア』のSNSは2人のモデルショットや仲睦まじい姿などを投稿。ファンは「なんて美しいんだ」、「これはパーフェクト」、「自然体なのが素晴らしい」、「文句のつけようがない」、「みんなが夢見る姿」と称賛の声が集まっている。
クルトワが心から愛し、クルトワの人間性を愛したミシェルさん。2人の関係性にがわかる写真はファンから好意的に受け止められたようだ。

▽『今日の誕生日は誰だ! 』11月22日は、ベルギー代表MFマルアン・フェライニだ。
▽モロッコ人の両親のもとにベルギーのエテルベーグで生まれたフェライニは、8歳の時にアンデルレヒトでサッカーを開始。当初はサッカーよりも陸上競技に興味を持っており、他の子供たちがバスや車で通学する中、走って学校に通っていた。しかし、サッカー選手であった父が、フェライニがサッカーにより関心を持つように仕向けたようだ。
▽父親の転職の影響もあり、フェライニはプロ選手になるまでアンデルレヒトやモンスなど複数クラブの下部組織でプレー。そして、17歳の時にスタンダール・リエージュのユースチームに加入し、2006年についにトップチームデビューを果たす。すぐに頭角を現すと、2007-08シーズンには公式戦39試合で7ゴールを記録し、ジュピラー・プロ・リーグで最も活躍したアフリカ系選手に与えられる「エボニー・シュー」という賞を受賞している。
▽2007年2月にはベルギー代表デビューも飾り、複数のビッグクラブが関心を示す中、フェライニは当時クラブ記録となる移籍金1500万ポンド(約22億3000万円)で2008年夏にエバートンに加入。以降、チームの主力としてプレーし、2011-12シーズンにはリーグ2位のタックル数、リーグトップのボールキープ数を叩き出した。
▽さらに2013年9月、エバートン指揮官であったデイビッド・モイーズ監督に付いていく形で、自身もユナイテッドに移籍。不遇の時期を過ごしたこともあったが、数年経ち指揮官がジョゼ・モウリーニョ監督に代わっても、トレードマークだったアフロヘア―を捨て去っても、その高さやフィジカル能力は重用されている。
▽また、フェライニはラフプレーが多い選手としても知られており、元審判員のハワード・ウェブ氏や元サッカー選手のジェイミー・キャラガー氏に苦言を呈されたこともある。さらに、2015年5月には時速制限40マイルの道路を時速81マイルで走行して検挙。その6分後に時速制限30マイルの道路を時速59マイルで走行して再び検挙された、というエピソードを持っている。
