14日に行われたブンデスリーガ第14節、ウニオン・ベルリンvsボーフムの試合でボーフムGKパトリック・ドリューズにライターが直撃する事態が起こった。

MF三好康児が13分に一発退場し、10人での戦いを長く強いられたボーフムだったが、1-1のまま終盤へ。そんな中、後半追加タイム1分、ウニオン側のサポーターが陣取るスタンドからライターが投げ込まれ、それがドリューズの頭部に直撃してしまった。

審判はこの事態を受けて両軍の選手たちをピッチから退かせ、約17分の中断に。治療を受けていたドリューズはプレー続行不可能となり、交代枠を使い切っていたマインツはFWのフィリップ・ホフマンをGKに据えた。
そして再開後、9人となったボーフムに対してウニオンはボールを奪いに行く姿勢を見せず、1-1のままタイムアップを迎えた。

なお、ボーフムはこの事態を受けて16日にDFL(ドイツサッカー連盟)に対して抗議を行うと発表。
また、頭部にライターが直撃したドリューズは病院に搬送されたとのこと。ディーター・ヘッキング監督はドリューズが放心状態にあったと話している。

そしてライターを投げた犯人に関しては特定され、警察に捕まったことをウニオンは発表している。
