アメリカ&メキシコが2027年の女子W杯招致を撤回…2031年をターゲットに「記録的な大会を開催する」

アメリカサッカー連盟とメキシコサッカー連盟は30日、2027年の女子ワールドカップ(W杯)の招致に関して、立候補を取り下げることを発表した。なお、2031年のW杯招致に動くという。

2023年にオーストラリアとニュージーランドの共催で行われ、スペイン女子代表が初優勝を果たしていた。2026年にはアメリカ、メキシコ、カナダの共催で男子のW杯が開催。32チームから48チームに出場国が拡大して行われる。

その翌年に女子W杯を開催しようとしていたが、今回は立候補を撤回。代わりに、2031年の女子W杯を男子と同等の投資をして開催を目指すと発表した。

「今回の修正された入札により、2026年の男子W杯の教訓と成功を踏まえ、さらに開催都市への支援を強化し、パートナーシップやメディア契約を拡大。さらにファンとの交流を深め、2031年に記録破りの大会を開催できるようにします」

なお、今回のアメリカ&メキシコの撤退により、残る開催地候補は、ブラジルかドイツ、ベルギー、オランダの共催の2つに絞られることとなった。

開催地は5月17日にタイのバンコクで開催されるFIFA総会で開催国が選定される。
